I am often asked how I came up with the idea of designing bags for cars.
In truth, coming up with the idea of the JAMAH Motorcar Collection was easy; I saw a natural connection between luxury handbags and luxury cars, and the flood of custom commissions continues to prove me right.
The question that should be asked is: “Why did you decide to take a chance on designing bags for cars?”
As an entrepreneur, every decision I make has the possibility of putting JAMAH on the map or perhaps putting us under. That’s the nature of business.
I haven’t always received positive feedback on the decisions I’ve made. I was told to give up on JAMAH because there would never be another big luxury design house, especially one in the USA. I was encouraged not to start AMBITION because I didn’t understand the school system.
But one thing keeps motivating me: my stalwart dedication to going after my dreams.
Once I set my heart on something–like JAMAH, AMBITION or the Motorcar Collection–I commit to it one hundred percent.
But what if I were to fail? So often, people try to tamp down their excitement because they fear disappointment if their dream does not come true. I see this with the AMBITION students: they may have their heart set on attending a particular college, but they tell themselves that they don’t care where they go so as not to be hurt if they aren’t admitted. This thought process is not limited to teenagers; it is pervasive. I witness it everywhere.
Personally, I embrace every opportunity to throw confetti! My life is infinitely richer when I have something that I’m hoping for and working towards. And if it doesn’t work out–because there will always be something that doesn’t work out–I’m disappointed anyway. So why deprive myself of the wonderful feeling of excitement while I’m on the journey?
When I am at a crossroads in my business, I ask myself: What makes me feel most inspired? What dream do I want to prioritize? What limit do I want to push next?
There is no doubt that when I have excitement beneath my wings, more often than not, things tend to work out.
